This last weekend we were privileged to help host Y-Malawi, an organization which our church, Trabuco Presbyterian, is one of the founding partners. The Malawi partners were visiting this week and we had the opportunity to hear from representatives from each of the partnerships. These are amazing saints. They don't know it, but they are. In our congregation we heard from John Mandere. John is the regional director for World Vision Malawi, and heads up the coordination of efforts in the area we are working in.
He began one of the services with the comment that at home, people sit around the fire and tell their stories. He said his mother was a great storyteller. He spoke of the stories of his father, about how God had intervened in his father's life, and how as a young man that he didn't believe the stories. They were too much! They were often stories of what God had done to get his father through one thing or another. Some quite miraculous.
After telling something of his own story, John commented that though he had his own story to tell, it wasn't until he saw it fitting in to God's story that it made sense. He began to see the same remarkable world that his father saw. John came to believe the journey was real, because he had seen for himself.
What struck me was the need to see our story fit inside of the larger story that God is writing. That's the whole reason for the journey. The call to the journey is to join in with what God is doing. Y-Malawi is a great way to join in with what God is doing. It is a great way to add some adventure to your life and respond to God's call to give yourself away. Check out their website. Think about becoming a partner. Think about expanding the understanding of your call to a larger view of the world. It's a worthwhile Call.
